Gallo...

Today, we went to an eco-farm near Río Muchacho (about an hour bus ride from Canoa).  It was an excellent experience in general – we toured the farm, learned a lot of the processes of organic farming, we made our own jewelry, and we also went through the step-by-step process of making our own organic chocolate.

Much of what we had learned about the farm related to the recent history of the area – the destruction of the forest by farming chemicals and cattle grazing.  The main goal of the farm we toured was to restore (by a very gradual process) the vitality of the forest that had existed some 20 years ago by using a wide variety of methods.  We got to see all of the livestock of the farm – pigs, guinea pigs, horses, donkeys, and roosters (like this charismatic one pictured above).  The experience was wonderful and we got back in Canoa just in time to work on some of our field-work we needed to do for our Advanced Spanish Grammar course.  We recorded two interviews from two people from the Coast so that we can later analyze their grammatical structures in their speech.
