Day 331 | Tuesday, November 24 | 2009

Mom...

We are back in Albuquerque and I feel so tired. I can't help but fall asleep as I type this -- it was hard to fall asleep on the airplane because I was in a seat that didn't recline for most of the trip. We flew from San Antonio to Salt Lake City and then Salt Lake City to Albuquerque. It is good to be back here, though. I love this city even though after time I would probably find some things to complain about.

Anyways, it's good to be here and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Day 320 | Friday, November 13 | 2009

Middle of the Night...

Completely exhausted. I felt like a zombie today as I went through all of the motions of my day -- theory, Spanish civilization and culture, 19th century spanish plays, teaching kindergarden and then e-mailing my final paper for biological anthropology.

I got about a half hour of sleep last night and I am slowly drifting off as I type this. I am going to go watch a movie in a little bit (the movie 2012) as a birthday party for Jim and then I am looking forward to sleeping tonight!

Day 295 | Monday, October 19 | 2009

Easy Rider...

I got about 30 minutes of sleep last night and today just seemed like a dream. I am sitting here typing on my log (on Microsoft Word) and I am about to take a long nap.

My test seemed to go alright and I felt really great about my paper.

Also, I took pictures of Caitlin last night with my iPhone while she was not looking -- pictures of her snuggling with Grey Brother :)

Here's a photo of the bike that is always outside my place.

Day 249 | Saturday, September 5 | 2009

Dow Lake...

I am pretty tired although I am excited for Caitlin's show tonight.

Día 129 | Viernes, 8 de Mayo | 2009

bar light...

I am really missing Caitlin right now and I wish I could be home.  I really miss friends and family too -- thanks so much for keeping up with me.  I can't wait to see you all.

Today was filled with class -- grammar, Andean literature and dance class.  In that order.  I'm gonna go to bed early tonight.

Día 127 | Miércoles, 6 de Mayo | 2009

Parque Calderón...

I feel guilty for not keeping up with people.  Why am I so bad at correspondence?  I can think of four people that I owe some long-deserved letters -- Rob, Jeff, Dale, and Roger.  If you are reading this guys, please forgive me.  I also realize that I need to write Leslie too.  This quarter has been so busy -- 20 credit hours and a good dose of culture shock.  I will write you soon.

Went out for a walk after lunch down to Parque Calderón.  This is pretty much the center of town here in Cuenca.  The huge Cathedral in the background is simply called La Catedral and it is a massive building.  Nothing like a enormous church to make you feel the glory of God -- Conquistador style.  I also like the woman walking through the foreground.

I am so tired right now.

Día 123 | Sábado, 2 de Mayo | 2009

On the Road...

A very long day.  14 hours in the bus from Canoa back to Cuenca.  I finished reading Savages today.  About a hundred fifty pages of reading.  I am so tired.  Here is a picture from the road.  I am amazed at how much the landscape of Ecuador changes as you drive from the coast to the mountains.  It is a very big difference – banana plants turn into very rugged trees and brush.  The air becomes so much lighter, the fog rolls in, and the temperature drops about 20 degrees.  Forget West Virginia, Ecuador is wild and wonderful.

Día 113 | Miércoles, 22 de Abril | 2009

So tired. Not much to say right now. I will have to upload the picture tomorrow because my camera is in the locker here at CEDEI and my locker keys are at home.

I have been feeling really lethargic lately and I think it is on account of being sick and also just being out of shape.

This post is really boring.

later:  here is a picture of Nick and Emily acting sassy

Day 76 | Monday, March 16 | 2009

Lamp of Roses...

To make up for my creative negligence lately, I figured I would try to put a little more effort into today's picture.  Rem and Amanda have this very lovely little table in their dining room which also has a beautiful lamp with roses inside of it.  It's a very nice soft light that shines through the front windows and down through the porch and from the street it is comforting to see the soft glow of the dining room.

I am going to miss living here at 3 Ring Street.  It's had its ups and downs but I think that the positives have far outweighed the negatives of living here.  Rem and Amanda are truly great people and are among the kindest I have ever met in my life.

In other news, I really shouldn't be writing in here for too much longer -- I ought to be spending my time on writing my final paper for tomorrow.  I will be so glad when all of these exams will be over on Friday.

Day 67 | Saturday, March 7 | 2009

Broken Flowers...

It's been a long day.  Lunch with Larry and Ryan and Ryan's brother Sean (Shawn?) was really nice.  I am really tired.

I am going to go to bed early tonight.

Day 50 | Thursday, February 19 | 2009

Sailing around the Room...

Finished my proposal with about 50 minutes to go.

So tired.  Life is good though.

Day 41 | Tuesday, February 10 | 2009

Salad...

Not too bad of a day.  It was rainy and mushy and everything bled together like a wet watercolor painting.  It's these messy weather days that can lead to messy emotions.  If only the sun were 100s of thousand miles closer, then we would be able to be happier.

I am tired.  Have a ton of music theory work to do.  I have been writing songs again lately which is interesting taken in the context that its been about 2 years since I had last written a song.  Maybe I have more music in me after all.

Tomorrow should be fun.  I'm going to get my hepatitis shots and maybe my tetanus shot.

Day 35 | Wednesday, February 4 | 2009

Locker...

It is so cold out today.  Everyone that I talk to has been dreading this weather and the Winter.  Everyone except for Evan who loves winter weather.

Today I got a Typhoid and Yellow Fever shot in preparation for studying in Ecuador this Spring.  I still need to get a tetanus, hepatitis, and rabies shot which will have to happen later.

Today I woke up feeling a little ill.  I really can't afford to get sick because I need to be at full strength this next week.  There are several projects and midterms that come to mind.

Day 26 | Monday, January 26 | 2009

Living room...

Not much to say for today.  I was exhausted from staying up until 4:30 working on my spanish paper and studying for my music theory mid term.  I was supposed to meet up with Josh tonight but I kept on falling asleep.

I am completely drained.

Day 21 | Wednesday, January 21 | 2009

Riley...

I am so tired I do not feel like writing a whole lot.  I got a couple hours of sleep because I had so much work to do for today.

I can sympathize with Riley.
